Our Kowhaiwhai Art
By Sasha and Rebekah
In He Kākano (our senior māori group) we have
been learning about kowhaiwhai and their
different meanings. We had to create a piece
of artwork showing at least one kowhaiwhai
pattern. Here is what we chose.

On the left we have our traditional design.
This pattern represents the Patiki or flounder.
It is a symbol of hospitality. We chose this
design because we both enjoy cooking/baking
for other people. The colours on this design
are traditional too.

On the right is our more modern design.
This pattern represents challenges or
stepping out of your comfort zone to try
something new. We chose this design because
we both enjoy trying new things. The colours

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your explanations of your kowhaiwhai patterns. My favourite one is your modern one because I really liked the colour combinations. Tino pai kowhaiwhai.
