In The Morning
In the Morning
Bare feet
hit frosty sand with a crunch.
Seagulls beckon me forward
with screeching, squawking sirens.
Crisp, salty breeze
wraps around me.
The sun will be rising soon.
I sit down
on a squishy, soggy log.
Waiting for sun.
Waiting for warmth.
Wild waves crash and smash
in the midnight blue morning.

My Selfie Poem
My Selfie Poem
I am from a beeping alarm clock,
from a noisy washing machine
and warm porridge.
I am from the sound of springs on the trampoline,
The smell of dinner cooking on the barbecue.
I am from the needles of a small pine tree,
From the West Coast Hockey team
The shadow covered punga tree.
I am from the sound of moreporks as I drift of to sleep,
From the big red chair squashed together with the family.
I am from, “Come get tea.”
And,“Is your room clean?”
From snoring sisters and gossiping parents.
I’m from barbeques at home and late summer nights,
And from dinner plates clanging and rushing out the door.
I’m from, “Eat your vegetables” and, “Time for bed,”
From the pages of Giraffes Can’t Dance,
And be kind to everyone.
I am from Addition and Subtraction
And constantly correcting my mum.
I am from the mouth of the Grey River and New Zealand.
Barbecued Sausages and Hokey Pokey ice cream,
From my cat’s lost tail.
From a gold bracelet from my nana.
