Lake Daniell

Lake Daniell
On Wednesday the 12th of June, rooms one and eight, Ms Kemp, Mrs Robins and some
parent help went and walked Lake Daniell for the William Pike Challenge. We had also
been learning about hypothermia and how to prevent it.

We all got to school early. We got  in our car groups and drove to the walk. In my car
group was Kelly, My Mum, Grace, Nevey and Lily. It took an hour and a half to get to the
start of the walk. Everyone got into groups of three for our scavenger hunt. I was with
Dakota and Rebekah.  On the scavenger hunt everyone had to find a: Rainbow trout, a
kaka, a long tailed bat and beech trees. My group only found beech trees.

After 15 minutes of walking we stopped and had a break for everyone to catch up to
have a drink.  Everyone stopped twice more before getting to the hut. It took us about
two hours and 15 minutes to get to the hut. At the hut it started to rain. No one  could
go into the hut because they are rebuilding it. So everyone sat on a log and had lunch.
After everyone had eaten we started our walk back to the cars.

On the way back we only stopped once. It was much faster on the way back.
When we got to the sluice box on the way back most people chucked rocks
and sticks into the water. It was nice to get to the end so that I could sit down.
My legs hurt a bit. When everyone had finished we took a photo and got into our car
groups.

In Reefton my car group stopped and got chips. When we got back to Greymouth we
dropped everyone off and went home. We didn’t get home until 6 o’clock. I had an
awesome and tiring day, but I think everyone had fun.
